The Curators Collective is an initiative introduced in 2016 facilitated by Simon Fennessy Corcoran in conjunction with Limerick City Gallery of Art (LCGA) as part of the Shinnors Scholarship project. The Collective aims to provide young people in Limerick an opportunity to explore the previously intangible concept of curatorship in one of Ireland’s leading contemporary art galleries. The goal set out by the collective is to examine the creative process in exhibition making, facilitate a learning process through discussions, workshops and undertake actions with focus on producing content for people aged 12-23 with particular focus on implementing the collection as a valuable tool in these actions.
In response to the development of the Collective the group will meet regularly, on Thursday evenings from 5:30 in LCGA to discuss the current exhibitions installation, attend programmed workshops/talks or idea development sessions or head to one of the local galleries to discuss their current exhibitions. The program is designed to respond to the groups needs and will take requests and suggestions from members in the ongoing program.
